HISTORY:
The reputation of the municipality comes from the grand vineyard "Chambertin",
situated on its soil.
It is said that around the year 630, the Duke of Burgundy donated an
estate to the Abbey of Bèze. The monks planted vines there and
made extraordinary wine.
The bordering soil was the property of a certain Bertin who, wanting
to imitate the monks' success, planted vines in his field ("champs"
in French), hence the name "Chambertin".
THE VINEYARD:
The vineyard is the most extensive of the Côte de Nuits with a
yield of +/- 10.000 hl.
THE WINE:
The Gevrey wines are among the most powerful of the Côte de Nuits.
But they also have delicacy:
"It mixes grace with vigour; associates firmness and strength with
delicacy; all these opposing qualities help create an admirable synthesis
of generosity and virtue. It is the ultimate burgundy wine." (Gaston
Roupnel)

Vintage 1993
Good presence but not a very distant future. Those few words summarize
the jury's forecast and verdict. The colour of this vintage 1993 evolves
on its fringe. Its bouquet opens gradually. Full and robust it expresses
itself by a very soft agility that must be taken into account. This
finding won't be eternal.
