- 1920
Charles Leymarie, native of Corrèze, establishes
a wine house in EGHEZEE, Belgium, in the same buildings where, today,
the essential wine making activities of the House are still being carried out.
- 1933
Charles buys impulsively more than a half hectare (+/-
1,23 acres) in the upper part of the Clos de Vougeot. Over the next
30 years, this parcel will be farmed « à mi-fruit »
by a local vine grower.
- 1939
The declaration of war forces Charles to go back to France.
He settles his family in Libourne where he buys the Château Beauchêne
(Pomerol) and the Clos Mazeyres (Pomerol). At the end of the war, he
resumes his business in Belgium with his youngest son René and
entrusts Marc, his eldest son, with the management of the two properties.
- 1957
Marc and René buy the Château Bodet (Canon-Fronsac).
- 1969
René buys the present buildings of the LEYMARIE-CECI
Domain in Vougeot, as well as the contiguous Vougeot « Clos
du Village » parcel. He also takes over
the farming of the Clos de Vougeot parcel. He completes the Domain properties
by acquiring:
- 1970 - one parcel in Gevrey-Chambertin
« La Justice »
- 1974 - two parcels in Morey-Saint-Denis and
two others in Burgundy
- 1976 - one parcel in Chambolle Musigny 1er
Cru « Aux Echanges »
- 1986
A complete replacement of the winery is undertaken. Stainless
steel equipment is installed and a temperature control system of vatting
by water streaming is introduced.
It is an important stage in the qualitative evolution of the Leymarie-Ceci
Domain wines.
- 1994
New barrels are installed for half the production.
- 1996
The systematic practice of « vendanges vertes »is adopted.
This « green harvest » takes place in July or August and
consists of reducing the number of grape bunches per plant. The purpose is to
optimize both the sugar level and grape maturation.
- Today:
René LEYMARIE and his eldest son Jean-Charles
jointly manage the LEYMARIE-CECI Domain and the Belgian business house LEYMARIE SA.
Dominique LEYMARIE is one of the most important wine brokers of the
Bordeaux region. He and his son, Gregory, manage the Château Tour
Robert (Pomerol) and Bellerose-Figeac (Saint-Emilion).
